Morning Routine
Do You Want To Have An Awesome Morning?

Morning Routine

I bet you do! Being able to have the best morning routine is sure worth spending some time on. Because...

...whether we are interested in exercising, reading, working, meditating or any other hobby - morning is the time to do it! As an early riser, I'll share my view on mornings and what you can do to make them extraordinary.

"Morning is an important time of day, because how you spend your morning can often tell you what kind of day you are going to have."

- Lemony Snicket, The Blank Book

I couldn't agree more! Before I started taking my morning seriously and becoming an early riser I used to have the worst mornings. And that was a reflection of my life.

  • Late to get up in the morning lead to stress during the day
  • Bad breakfast in the morning lead to less energy during the day
  • No exercise in the morning lead to real energy dips during the day
  • No planning of the day in the morning lead to less accomplishments during the day
  • No time for personal fulfillment in the morning lead to unhappy feelings during the day

And the list can go on and on.

Nowadays the mornings have become my favorite time of the day. There is so much value in having a fantastic and well-planned morning routine.

Just A Word On Routines

Just a word on routines to all of you out there that feel this is quite a negative word. I know I didn't like this word myself before. I associated it with a lack of freedom and making my life boring. Now why would I want to do that?

It wasn't until I read the following sentence from the famous children's book The Little Prince that I really understood the importance of habits and routines.

"They are what make one day different from other days, one hour from other hours"

Without any routines our hours and days just passes without us barely noticing. Routines are what create order in our otherwise chaotic lives.

Also, having routines and habits is what can give us great results in the end. As we all know, "Rome wasn't built in one day". And the same applies to your own life. By being consistent and creating simplicity for the mind you can create something extraordinary.

And please note that this doesn't only have to include just yourself. I have a specific article how to create a great morning routine for couples, so take a look if this applies to you.

Get A Great Start

If you use some quality morning time to focus on yourself, you will truly be setting yourself up for success. Your entire day will be a reflection of an awesome morning.

Most of us to tend to drag ourselves out of bed just to rush off to work. At the time we arrive, our mind hasn't even woken up yet. And worst of all, we totally missed the best part of the day.

In the morning, even though you might initially feel tired and drowsy, this is actually the time of day when your mind is as clear as it ever will be. In simple terms, it becomes easier to focus on what you truly want to accomplish. After a long day of working, seeing new things, getting new impulses, talking, stressing and generally keeping busy it becomes increasingly difficult to take that extra time for yourself.

I know for a fact that one of the top reasons to why people don’t have the time and energy to go after their personal goals is that they cannot find the proper time. Therefore, the time in the morning is ideal to be your own time which you can fully control.

Starting the day by doing something for you, what you truly want, is nothing else than the beginning of a successful day. Success breeds success and you just gave yourself a hell of a head start.

My Own Morning Routine

I really want to emphasize the importance of planning your morning. Here's an example of one morning routine I used for a very long time. Really made my day!

  • 0500-0515: Wake up, use the bathroom, have a small breakfast (yoghurt and bread)
  • 0515-0600: Do some very intense morning exercise and shower
  • 0600-0620: Language study (I was living abroad at the time)
  • 0620-0650: Either meditation or just reading a good book just outside as I can see the sun slowly rising and putting its warm hands on my shoulders.
  • 0650-0710: Waking up my girlfriend, playing with the cat, checking the news or other relaxing things.
  • 0710-0730: Planning my day, such as what I want to accomplish, when to do what and reviewing my goals to make sure I am aligned. Usually I reflected a bit on the events from the day before as well.
  • 0730-0800: Have a real big breakfast, dress and get everything ready for work

Now don't get me wrong here. I didn't actually keep time to make sure I kept my schedule. This is just a time estimate above. In reality, it just came quite natural.

I have 3 hours here as you can see before I go to work. Nowadays, I use at least one hour to share my thoughts right here on this website. But however I spend those 3 hours, I really get the outcome I am after:

  • Starting the day without stress
  • Already accomplishing a lot before 0800 (e.g. study language, exercise, reading, etc.)
  • Making sure I have a solid breakfast
  • Getting ready for the upcoming day and being proactive about the challenges ahead
  • Reviewing my goals in life (personal, physical, spiritual, financial, etc.)
