Does Light Wake You Up

This is a common question I get - does light wake you up in the morning?

And I always say...

Yes it does! But...

...just because it wakes you up, that doesn't mean that it always gets you up.

First, let me explain shortly why you are easier to wake up when the morning when the light hits you. The reason is that your body will recognize bright light as a sign that the morning is here. Now this might not mean that you wake up instantly though. And that's good.

But it will at least help to tell your mind that "it is soon time to wake up, therefore you better finish your sleep cycle and come back to reality".

So it is a real plus to wake up with the morning light. And there are many ways you can make it happen:

  • Leave a glitch in the curtains for the morning light to enter
  • Use a light projection alarm clock that simulates the morning light
  • Instantly turn on the light in the room once you hear the alarm clock
  • Make sure your bed faces the window so the sunshine can hit you head on

So what do I mean when I say that the light doesn't always get you up though? Well, my point is that it might just not be enough for you to be struck by the morning light. If you are incredibly sleepy still or if you lack the motivation to take on a new day, then this trick will not be the full solution to your problem.

To get truly motivated and to wake up happy, I recommend the following...

That guide will take you through the entire process for how to create a feeling of happiness when you wake up in the morning. You don't just want to wake up because you have to, do you? I bet you want to be able to jump out of bed.
