Wake Up Songs
Let The Music Get You Up

Wake Up Songs

Wake up songs can work wonders in the morning to get you up if you need that extra energy-kick.

An instant boost of energy would be great, right? And it's so simple this one. What happens when we use some of our favorite music to get out of bed is that we replace that strong feeling of morning misery with a positive feeling connected to the music.

Perhaps you might not jump up and start dancing, but as long as your mind wakes up enough to realize it's morning - then it works!

Let's discuss some wake up songs and how to use the power of music!

It's Easy To Try

Nowadays it's really simple to put this into practice. A few alternatives for you:

  • The easiest way is of course to use your phone. You can most often set the ringtone, so instead of using one of the predefined ones, you can choose an mp3-song you have stored on your phone.
  • You can use your stereo to wake you up. And with most of them you can select the source from which to start in the morning. Choose CD if you have that possibility. You can also connect your mp3-player to blast it directly out through the speakers.
  • If you have one of those alarm clocks with built-in radio, then you set your alarm to start playing from your favorite radio station in the morning. Of course, with this method, you won't be able to decide exactly which song will wake you up but hopefully you can get some good music at least.

That's three very easy ways so don't let technology stop you before you've even tried it.

The Absolute Best Music To Wake Up To

So which are the absolute best wake up songs? What kind of music really works?

That's a tough question actually, but before I go into that, I'll just list a few of my own good old favorites to use in the morning. Just don't judge me too much =)

  • Bruce Springsteen - Johnny 99. Starts with a very powerful harmonica intro which will make anyone's come back to reality. Quite a high-tempo song with great lyrics as well from Bruce.
  • Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al. For me, this one has really come to be associated with happiness and energy! The beat is just fantastic, give it a try.
  • The Proclaimers - I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles). Strong beat and great motivation to get out there and do something!
  • Bob Marley - Redemption Song. It just makes me going you now. If you want to accomplish something, you better wake up.
  • Culture Club - Karma Chameleon. Starts off almost like an alarm, but turns into a smooth morning song with a unique rhythm.

These are just a few good old songs which does the trick for me. But this is very personal. You need the songs you associate with energy and that pumps you up to be ready for a new day.

According to me, there's no need to have the words "morning", "wake up" or something similar in the song. Most likely you won't be hung up with the words anyway so just go for a song you think will do the trick. Try it your way.

Just A Warning

I feel I have to raise a slight hand of warning here. Although using a wake up song might be great, there is an inherited danger.

You might end up hating the song you choose!

Yeah, it's true. Unless you have a good wake up routine your feelings about the songs might change. Here's why.

  • You wake up tired, hear this great song.
  • You wake up tired, hear this great song.
  • You wake up tired, hear this great song.

After a while, you might:

  • Hear this great song, feel tired.

And not only tired, angry as well, because this is the song that keeps interrupting your precious sleep. So as my friend said:

"The best way to ruin a good song is to use it as your morning alarm"

I'm not saying it's gonna happen, just that this is not a fix-all solution.

Another, a bit crazy, suggestion I've heard is to set your alarm to some awful song you hate. That combined with placing your alarm far away will for sure get you running up. Might not give you the best start of a new day though...

What Is Your Favorite Wake Up Song?

Still, I believe having a great morning song can be awesome. So I would love to hear what works for you! Post below and let everyone know.
